Fic - Island in the Sun
Title: Island in the Sun
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Artie/Mike
Rating: PG
Synopsis: Summer, best friends and a hammock. Life's pretty good.
Disclaimer: I don't own Glee.
Notes: Fic title is from Weezer's Island in the Sun
Written for Tiffany, for her prompt "Artie/Mike, Hammock".
Artie was hanging out at Mike’s house on a lazy June afternoon. They had nothing to do and were just talking on the back porch.
“Look at that, man,” Mike said. “Pretty sweet, huh?”
“Oh, hell yeah,” Artie answered, looking at where Mike was pointing. A hammock was hanging between a tree and one of the fence pickets. “It looks real comfy, too,” he added.
“You’ve never tried a hammock?” Mike looked shocked.
“Can’t climb in it, now, can I?”
“Come on, I’ll help you,” Mike said, standing up.
“What? No, you don’t have to, I’m perfectly fine – “
Artie was cut off by Mike who passed an arm around his shoulders and one under his legs.
“Hold tight,” he said, “here we go.”
Mike lifted him pretty easily and Artie had to say, it felt kinda great being like this in Mike’s arms. He let his head rest on Mike's shoulder and breathed him in.
Mike made his way across the yard and stopped next to the hammock.
“Okay, careful now, we don’t wanna tip it upside-down.”
Slowly, he laid Artie down in the hammock, keeping it stable with one hand. He carefully let go, taking a step back. The hammock swung from side to side, but it didn’t tip upside-down.
Artie was enjoying it a lot: it was a nice change from his wheelchair.
“So, what do you think?”
“This is boss, man! Thanks!”
Mike chuckled.
“I think we can both fit on it, though,” Artie added with a smirk.
He had like being in Mike’s arms, and now, even though the hammock was awesome, he kinda missed them – but he didn’t know why. He just knew he needed Mike close to him - he needed to be able to touch him.
Mike looked at him like he was unsure – trying to see if Artie was joking, but he finally gave in. He climbed in cautiously, settling himself right next to Artie.
The hammock was large enough for both of them, but only if they lay really close. Mike’s body was pressed to Artie’s side, his arm around his shoulders to hold him closer and Artie had never felt better.
It felt just right.
